It
is often stated by parents that they feel their child knows
more about the computer than they do. Our kids may be more
advanced with the new technologies, but they are not as
experienced or mature as their parents are and they need
their parents' involvement in this part of their lives.
With this in mind, the Georgia ICAC Task Force has focused
on education and prevention in addition to investigation.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation/Georgia ICAC and The
Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) have worked collaboratively
to implement a statewide program of volunteers trained to
give classes and presentations to communities and parent
groups as needed. The volunteers, consisting of officers
from local police stations, sheriff's offices, and professional
organizations, are available for short presentations covering
topics of interest. Presenters are certified by GaCSI (the
Georgia Cybersafety Initiative) after successfully completing
a 20 hour course of instruction covering the following topics:
Personal
Information and Privacy
Risks and Misuses of Technology
Predator and Victim Profiles
Trends - Web 2.0 Applications
Trends - Gaming and Virtual Worlds
Newest Devices
Parent Cybersafety Suggestions
Technology Tools and Strategies to Keep Children Safer Online
